English
Overview
The English Department offers three minors: English Studies, Writing, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Teacher candidates who wish to complete an endorsement in English Language Arts should follow the English Studies minor.
Point of Pride
The Department of English was the first in the nation to establish a doctoral program in English studies.
Why study English?
Students studying English form, evaluate, and master the language. They critique and create art forms such as poetry, drama, and the novel. A bachelor's degree is usually sufficient for entry in many industries but for college or university educators a Ph.D. is recommended. A Minor in English can be good preparation for continued graduate or professional training in areas such as English, law, political science/government, public administration, psychology, counseling, communications, and religious studies (i.e., seminary).
